Aims and scope
Agenda: Australian Public Finance welcomes submissions on public economics, with emphasis on public policy, including taxation, fiscal policy, social insurance, family economics, education, labour market policy, and political economy. The journal has a particular interest in issues relevant to Australia, but submissions do not need to have an Australian focus.
Manuscripts
Manuscripts should:
- Be no longer than 35 pages, including figures but excluding references and appendices.
- Use 12-point font and 1.5 line spacing.
- Include an abstract of at most 250 words and 3 to 5 keywords.
- Provide 3 to 5 article highlights of no more than 85 characters each.
- Use Chicago style for references.
- Be submitted in Word or PDF. LaTeX files are required only at final submission.
- Include figures and tables embedded in the manuscript at their intended location, not as separate files.
- Give figures and tables explanatory captions and clear labels.
- Make all text, including text in figures, large enough to be readable.
Manuscripts should be original work and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Review process
Submissions are first considered by an editor to determine whether they are suitable for further review.
Papers proceeding beyond this stage are reviewed using an AI academic review tool, which reviews the manuscript's methodology and reference accuracy. The resulting report is provided to editors and referees as part of the peer review process. We do not use AI tools that retain manuscripts after processing or that use manuscripts to train AI models. By submitting a manuscript to Agenda, authors consent to their manuscript being processed by an AI tool for this purpose.
Papers proceeding to peer review are also assessed by expert referees. Editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the journal's editors. See the peer review policy.
Replication policy
Authors of accepted papers are required to provide the data and code necessary to reproduce all tables, figures and reported results calculated by the authors. Where data cannot be shared because of confidentiality, licensing or other access restrictions, authors should still provide the relevant code along with sufficient information about the data and how they may be accessed. Authors are expected to help others with any questions they might have about accessing the data.
